It's Championship weekend at the Borgata Summer Poker Open.

OK, we won't actually crown a winner of the Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship until Thursday, June 20, but the $2,500 + $200 Deepstack Double Play tournament gets underway at 11am Sunday June 16. Of course, that's Day 1A of the Double Play with Day 1B starting 11am Monday. Players busting out on Day 1A at any level can re-buy on Day 1B.

Cash bonuses for the championship include $3,000 for the Day 1A and 1B leader and $2,000 for the second place chip finisher each day.

Last year's Borgata Summer Poker Open champ was Melad Marji of Atlantic City who won just shy of $200K after outlasting a field of 305.

Event 9 Winner Frank Vulpis
It should be noted, however, that the fields for this year's Summer Open have been very strong. For example, Event 9, a $260 buy-in tournament attracted 689 entries and a nearly $180,000 total buy-in, continuing a trend at Borgata Opens for lower buy-in, mid-week Big Stack tournaments that draw big fields.

One way into the Borgata Summer Poker Open Championship is through satellite qualifiers. Today's $135 + $25 qualifier is underway. About 1 in 20 players wins a seat at the championship.

A total of five more qualifiers are scheduled for the weekend:

Event 40 Sat 6/15 12pm $ 270 + $ 30 Championship Qualifier No Limit Hold'em (~ 1 in 10)
Event 41 Sat 6/15 3pm $ 540 + $ 60 Championship Qualifier No Limit Hold'em (~ 1 in 5)
Event 42 Sun 6/16 12pm $ 135 + $ 25 Championship Qualifier No Limit Hold'em (~ 1 in 20)
Event 43 Sun 6/16 3pm $ 400 + $ 50 Championship Qualifier No Limit Hold'em (~ 1 in 7)
Event 44 Sun 6/16 7pm $ 270 + $ 30 Championship Qualifier No Limit Hold'em (~ 1 in 10)

Meanwhile, the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot has been quietly growing amid all this tournament frenzy and now sits at $379,621 with the Small Bad Beat Jackpot at $50K.

A lot of money is going to be flying around the Borgata Poker Room this weekend. Where else would you rather be?
