As Borgata celebrates both its 10th anniversary and the July 4th holiday, the Borgata Poker Room will offer a special holiday tournament on the 4th.

The $150 + $30 + $100 Black Chip Bounty No Limit Tournament begins at 11am.

Under the Borgata Bounty system, players buy-in for an extra $100 and receive a $100 cash casino chip. The chip is kept in front of the tournament chip stacks.

Any player that knocks another player out of the tournament wins the cash chip which they can pocket immediately. The chip is yours regardless of where you finish in the tournament.

Players receive 15K in tournament chips. Antes kick in at level 4. Levels are 20 minutes (Levels 1-10) and 25 minutes (Level 11 and on). Re-entry through Level 6

Registration begins at 9am in the poker room and lasts through level six. Here's the full structure.

The July 4th holiday weekend and Borgata's 10th anniversary celebration are still under way and the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot is behaving accordingly.

After hitting for $434,000 June 27, the jackpot has picked up better than $60K in just over a week and now stands at $236,885. The Small Bad Beat Jackpot is already sitting at $50K.

That's just a testament to the ongoing action in the Borgata Poker Room during these hot July days (Yay, Borgata air conditioning).

Check out all the live poker action and our daily tournament schedule for the remainder of this July 4th weekend.

Tournament players, don't forget the Borgata Leaderboard promotion from now through Aug. 31.

Next weekend, big things are in store with a $100,000 guaranteed Saturday Series event on July 13 and a $250,000 Guaranteed Deepstack Double Play Tournament July 14-17.

Just some of the ways Borgata helps you celebrate independence.

Borgata Small Bad Beat Jackpot Hits For $50K

$

One of the truly amazing things about the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot is its ability to absorb small jackpot hits (usually for $50K) and still offer some of the best jackpots in Atlantic City.

Case in point, the Borgata Small Bad Beat Jackpot hit  Friday night (July 5) for $50,000, yet the total jackpot has already made back $30,000 of the hit over the rest of the holiday weekend and stands at $216,523 going into today's play.

Just a refresher - the full Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot pays when quad 10s or better is beaten while the Borgata Small Bad Beat Jackpot pays when quad deuces to quad nines are beaten.

Friday's hit came at a $1-$2 NL table when quad 4’s were beaten by quad 5’s. Who says small pairs in the hole never pay off?

Here are the winners:

·         ROBERT BUBIAK (CLARK, NJ):  Quad 4’s for $20K

·         MATTHEW BURKHARD (BROOKLYN, NY):  Quad 5’s for $10K

Seven remaining players split remaining $20K:

·         THOMAS DISTASIO (SEWELL, NJ)
·         ANDREW GORDON (PARSIPPANY, NJ)
·         VANESSA DAZA (HIGHLAND PARK, NJ)
·         ANTHONY CUCCO (STATEN ISLAND, NY)
·         TAE PARK (WHITE PLAINS, NY)
·         SRIRAMAMURTY RACHAKONDA (HERNDON, VA)
·         JOSEPH OPPEDISANO (SPRINGFIELD, VA).

5th Annual Put a Bad Beat on Hunger Poker Tournament Aug. 18

Cheddar cheese and poker - It's a pretty good combination, especially when you throw in a little sliced pepperoni.

But who could have guessed that combining the main product of Vermont's Cabot Creamery Cooperative - award winning Vermont cheddar cheese - and Borgata Casino Hotel's poker room - the No. 1 poker room in Atlantic City - would turn out to be one of the most timely charity initiatives South Jersey has seen in years.

On August 18, Borgata and Cabot Creamery will present the 5th annual Put a Bad Beat on Hunger charity poker tournament in the Borgata Poker Room.

The $300 Deep Stack Semi-Turbo NLH (re-entry) event carries a $250 Buy-In + $30 entry + $20 charity per player which will be donated to the Food Bank of Southern New Jersey

It's all designed to bring out the grinders to help local communities, many of which are still smarting from the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy.

"As a collective, we don't have traditional advertising," says Roberta MacDonald, marketing honcho for Cabot Creamery. "What we do is try and work within the community. When we struck a partnership with the Food Bank of Southern New Jersey, it all came together."

Five years ago, the tournament arrived shortly after the U.S. economy took a nosedive.

"I think we saw just how important these efforts are," she says. "Food banks have become much more than most people think. There are a lot of middle class families that depend on them. We give a lot of our product to community groups, but this tournament is a way to do even more.

"And, of course, we wanted to stay in our own backyard here in the Northeast," MacDonald says. "I couldn't see this in Vegas. To me, Borgata is the jewel of Atlantic City and the prefect place to have this event."

It should be pointed out that MacDonald is a poker player and had been looking to find away to bring poker players and Vermont cheddar together.

"I've been a fan of poker since they began televising it in the late 90s," she says. "And it was all male at the time. I just kept thinking 'How do we get our cheese in the mouths of those poker players?' Cheese is actually great for poker. You need something high energy that increases endurance and fills you up."

Of course, there isn't a poker player in the world who doesn't like a good nosh. But that's true of most everybody else as well, whatever hand nature has recently dealt them.

So the 5th Annual Put a Bad Beat on Hunger Tournament Aug. 18 at Borgata is once again perfectly timed. It's a chance to play a competitive tournament, munch some fine Vermont cheddar and ultimately, help a lot of people through some tough times.  And don't forget, Cabot Creamery Cooperative is donating a $3,500 entry into the $3 million televised WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship (September 15-20, 2013) to the winner of this event!

Like we said, it's a perfect combination.

A Chat With Borgata Poker Regular Dave Inselberg

$

Borgata regular Dave Inselberg knows just when to seek out a little love in the Borgata Poker Room - love of winning tournament action that is.

With the WSOP going on in Vegas, and after receiving little love there, Inselberg was back at Borgata to play in the $250,000 Guaranteed $1,000 buy-in Borgata Deepstack Double Play tournament held July 14-17.

Dave Inselberg
"I'm coming off one of the worst showings of my life at the WSOP and when I got back, I just knew I had to get to the Deepstack  tournament," Inselberg tells us at the Borgata Poker Blog. "One thing about the summer tournaments at Borgata is that the fields are a little better to play with so many pros in Vegas. It's a great opportunity for locals."

And not bad for  local pro like Inselberg, who scored a second place finish (as always, barring player chops).

Inselberg, 46 ("But I feel 30") of Long Beach NY, has been playing professionally for about 12 years. In that time he's accumulated about $750,000 in career earnings (not counting online play). His biggest payday came with a second place finish at the 2010 World Poker Finals (a $325,000 cash).

Included in his total winnings are two cashes at the 2012 Borgata Fall Poker Open, and about a dozen other Borgata cashes dating back to 2008. His second place finish at the Borgata Deepstack event, officially about $48K, is one of his richest showings at Borgata.

"I do think Borgata has the best poker room on the East Coast and, maybe the world," he says. "I really feel like it's my home field. It's the best run room, the fields are always big and what's not to love about the entertainment and food at Borgata?"

For the Deepstack event, Inselberg was part of a field of 331 (not bad for a $1,000 buy-in) and made it to the final table.

"You know how it is, I ran good at times and ran bad at times," he says of the three-day grind. "I didn't make a lot of draws, but at the same time I didn't get hit with any really bad beats. Anytime that happens - no bead beats - I know I can make it deep into the tournament."

With a host of August events on the Borgata Calendar and the 11th annual Borgata Poker Open series scheduled for September 3-20, it won't be long before Inselberg is at a Borgata table again.

"I always look forward to coming back to Borgata," he says. "It's just the best place to play."
