Borgata Summer Poker Open Starts Crowning Champions

The first event of the Borgata Summer Poker Open went to a local, Michael Bonney of Mays Landing and a table games supervisor at Harrahs AC. He wins $98,502, outlasting 1,383 entries, one of the largest opening fields in the Summer Open's history.

The new father is an amateur player, but bested an impressive field that shows the Summer Open is serving as a nice tune-up for some East Coast pros before they head out for the WSOP.

Bonney wasn't the only trophy of the Summer Open early Friday after the marathon three-day (two opening days) tournament.

Event 2, also finished up after a 17-hour session. The winner was David Eilers of Rocky Mount NC. He outlasted a field of 285 entries in the $350 + $50 + $100 Black Chip Bounty tournament. He wins $27,091 and collected 18 bounties. Read the full recap here.

As the Summer Open heads into its first full weekend, a full slate of tournaments is on tap. Highlights of the weekend include:

Meanwhile, cash play continues 24/7 and the Borgata Bad Beat Jackpot has climbed back to $336,185 going into today's (Friday, June 7) play after a Small Bad Beat Jackpot hit last Sunday (June 2).
